Com­pressed Nat­ural Gas (CNG) is actu­ally methane gas that is com­pressed and stored in cylin­ders under high pres­sure of 200–250 bar. It there­fore occu­pies lesser space and pro­vides ade­quate pres­sure while enter­ing the com­bus­tion cham­ber of the engine, thereby improv­ing the effi­ciency of com­bus­tion. Liq­ue­fied Nat­ural Gas (LNG) is liq­uid methane gas that is stored in insu­lated tanks at a tem­per­a­ture of about –163° C. CNG and LNG are odour­less, colour­less and non cor­ro­sive. No Pol­lu­tion and Health Hazards

Gas is a cleaner alter­na­tive to petrol and diesel. LPG, LNG and CNG are con­sid­ered to be green fuels because they are devoid of sul­phur and lead. They there­fore reduce dan­ger­ous exhaust emis­sions. Lead, an anti-knock agent that is added to petrol, is emit­ted in the exhaust fumes and pol­lutes the air, water and soil. Lead is there­fore inhaled or ingested, and being highly toxic, pro­duces life­long adverse effects on human health. Nat­ural Gas con­tains no lead and other pol­lu­tants. Nat­ural Gas also does not con­tain ben­zene which is car­cino­genic and results in what is called ben­zene pollution.

Nat­ural Gas is lighter than air, and there­fore rises into the atmos­phere in case of a leak. Also, as Gas burns only when present in a cer­tain range of con­cen­tra­tion, it does not explode or burn under nor­mal cir­cum­stances, mak­ing it safe.

Reduced Green­house Gases

Car­bon diox­ide which is a major green­house gas, is emit­ted in neg­li­gi­ble pro­por­tions by nat­ural gas com­bus­tion as com­pared to diesel or petrol. Also, nitro­gen oxides (NOx) emit­ted by nat­ural gas are 80% less than those emit­ted by diesel-run vehi­cles. Also, there is no residue or tiny par­ti­cles that pol­lute the air.

Smog, that is seen loom­ing over busy cities, is pro­duced by ground level ozone that is the result of a chem­i­cal reac­tion between car­bon monox­ide, nitro­gen oxides and other organic com­pounds. Nitro­gen oxides also result in acid rain. The ris­ing of green­house gases can cause altered weather con­di­tions and also the ris­ing of sea lev­els. Nat­ural gas has min­i­mal exhaust emis­sions, and is there­fore one of the purest motor fuels avail­able today.

Longer Engine Life

Gas is gen­tle on spark plugs and there­fore increases the spark plug life in Petrol engines. It is also non-corrosive and does not react with engine parts, thus increas­ing engine per­for­mance and engine life. Gas does not con­tain lead as con­tained in petrol, and there­fore does not cause lead foul­ing of spark plugs, whereby the fir­ing tip accu­mu­lates lead deposits. There­fore there is no misfiring.

Gas does not con­t­a­m­i­nate lubri­cat­ing oils, and there­fore keep the crankcase oil cleaner. All this means fuel effi­ciency, fewer stops at gas sta­tions and fewer oil changes.
