Questions & Answers

These are some of the most frequently asked questions but if it does not satisfy your requirements, please do not hesitate to email us or to send an enquiry via this site’s online query form . We will always reply promptly.

  1. Does the engine run on LPG only?
No. Your engine will always run on diesel as before the LPG is used like an additive to increase the combustion & performance of the diesel fuel this also increases economy & lowers emissions, etc.
  2. How does the Eco-Gas connect to the engine?
The Eco-Gas unit connects to the engine manifold via 2 small brass fittings, 1 is connected to the main manifold to monitor manifold MAP (vacuum & pressure) the other at the inlet or just before the manifold to inject LPG as required.
  3. Is the Eco-Gas wired to the vehicle’s ECU or sensors?
No. Eco-Gas is a fully automatic system & only requires the following wiring to the vehicle: 12 volt live under key, negative, 1 wire to the alternator to sense running of engine.
  4. Why do you not quote Kmpg or Performance gains for vehicles?
The system is designed to increase the performance & lower emissions of a diesel vehicle so kmpg economy gains are therefore classed as a bonus, Kmpg gains cannot be calculated for this simple reason — every driver drives a vehicle differently so will always get a different fuel return as the gained economy can be used as a fuel in power, etc.. to quote an kmpg gains would therefore be misleading you, so kmpg diesel fuel savings can be used as extra power & performance depending on how you drive! gained performance & Torque figures again cannot be calculated without testing every vehicle converted on a rolling road (dyno), etc.
  5. Will the Eco-Gas System fit all turbo or non turbo vehicle?
Yes. The Eco-Gas System suits all diesel powered engines. Turbo and Non Turbo. We can fit from 1 litre to 12 litre engines. Trucks and heavy commercial vehicles also have tremendous gains.
  6. Is it cost effective and safe for the environment?
Yes. The Eco-Gas system is CLEAN AND GREEN. The black smoke produced by diesel engines is unburnt fuel. By improving combustion the Eco-Gas system automatically reduce black smoke emissions… usually by as much as 80% — 90%.
  7. How does installing an LPG reduce down time?
The Eco-Gas system can improve the life of the engine by reducing engine oil contaminants by a significant amount, therefore improving its lubricating qualities between oil changes. Plus, it reduces the carbon build-up on other engine components, such as, combustion chambers, valves, exhaust systems and turbo chargers.
  8. What if I can’t get LPG, run out of gas or the there is a fault?
The system is designed to take care of all these issues. Where a zero gas situation occurs, say by an empty tank or by a system malfunction, the diesel system will continue to function as if the Eco-Gas system was never installed. e.g.. if for any reason your Eco-Gas system fails the gas control unit will simply shut down the system.
  9. How big will the LPG tank be?
A 30 litre gas tank is sufficient for 90 — 100 litres of diesel. i.e. about 1/3 LPG to Diesel ratio
  10. Will it give me more power AND save me money?
TA typical installation will net an improvement of between 15% — 20% in ECONOMY AND TORQUE. In some vehicles the benefit has been as high as 30% however 20% is our recommended limit. On a recent install to a 100 series Land Cruiser, the vehicle went from 84hp to 114hp, and from 169 — 217 in torque! See web site for further details (http://Eco-Gas.com.au/benefits.htm)The System usually has another benefit: EXTENDED ENGINE LIFE through cleaner engine oil. This also saves you on 1) running costs, 2) engine rebuilding cost and 3) down time.
  11. Injecting LPG BEFORE the turbo sound dangerous, is it?
Well YES, we agree that it is. We are surprised the authorities have not classified it as illegal! One small hole could send the whole lot up in flames. THAT IS WHY WE DO NOT DO IT! The Eco-Gas system injects LPG into the inlet manifold of the engine. This means that no flammable LPG is sent through hot turbos or fragile intercoolers. (I bet the opposition didn’t warn you of that!) The other fumigation systems simply use a draw-through method… i.e. DINOSOUR. We use only the highest grade TRUE injection system which is more than capable of overcoming manifold pressure created by the turbo.
  12. Will the Eco-Gas System work if I have a Safari or other ECU CHIP installed?
YES. No matter if your vehicle is chipped or not, the Eco-Gas system will work … and work well. In fact, with aftermarket performance items such as ECU chips, performance air filters and 3″ exhaust systems the Eco-Gas System will work even better since you are flowing more air through your engine. The installer needs only to tune the Eco-Gas jet size, as per normal. Then you will REALLY see your truck perform!!!
  13. After installation does the vehicle require special tuning?
No. Your vehicle will not need any special tuning. Your local diesel mechanic can service the car as normal. One thing to note thoguh, we are sure that he will comment on the quality of the engine oil from now. LPG really does a great job of cleaning not only the engine oil but also hot stops in the combustion chamber, and carbon from other engine parts.
  14. My truck blows black smoke under acceleration, will the Eco-Gas System reduce this?
One of the many advantages of injecting LPG, regardless of whose system you use, is that it the black smoke is reduced almost completely.
  15. I drive a 4WD. Is the Eco-Gas System affected by steep slopes?
No. Since the Eco-Gas System draws liquid from the LPG tank, NOT vapour, 4WD owners will never be limited by steep hills which limits other systems and make them unusable for the serious off-roader. I bet they didn’t tell you that either!
  16. OK, what does it cost?
Our full kit is $3800 plus GST. Any need to reposition or replace the centre muffler is charged as an extra … usually between $50 — $250.
  17. What are the chances of getting some money back from Canberra?
For passenger vehicles the Government rebate of $2000 ($3000 in WA) applies for private use vehicles. Light and heavy commercial vehicles may be eligible for 2 forms of rebate. 1) Fuel Tax Credits rebate scheme and 2) the GOVT REBATE SCHEME FOR HEAVY INDUSTRY. Click the link for more details.
  18. Does it take long to install?
Installation takes 1 day and we can usually book you in within 10 days and if we don’t have an installer close to you we will find one. We have installation centres in all Australian capital cities and some remote locations.
  19. Can the Eco-Gas System be turned off if I want it off?
YES. On the LPG gauge inside the cabin there is an on/off switch. Remember, after you turn the system back on, there is a 1 minute system check and warm up period before the systems starts injecting gas.
  20. If LPG tank becomes empty does anything need to be switched off, and does the LPG then a utomatically re-feed with a refilled tank?
The system is fully automatic. You never need to touch a button. The Eco-Gas will “Auto off” when empty, and “Auto On” when refilled.
  21. Do you have any Installers in the south east of Melbourne.
YES. Please contact us for this and many other areas we Install around Australia.
  22. What is the standard reply from manufacturers regarding engine warranty?.

Why is Eco-Gas recognised as the best system on the market?

The Eco-Gas System:

  • On turbo charged vehicle in injected AFTER the turbo … not before
  • Can be fitted to all diesel engines including non turbo charged vehicles
  • Uses an inline vaporiser (no liquid gas is allowed into engine which can cause catastrophic failure)
  • Does not fail if 4WD vehicle is driven on steep slopes where vapour-draw systems can draw liquid from the tank and fail.
  • Uses temperature activation (ie no LPG at engine warm up)
  • Uses tacho and throttle control (ie no LPG is introduced at idle and allows superior control of LPG)
  • Has fewer parts to install than any other system. (the major system is housed in a small control box)
  • Has no intake restrictions. Other systems place LPG donut spray rings in the inlet track of the vehicle causing a restriction in the air intake pipe.
  • Incorporates limiters. Without these limiters your engine may over rev
  • Has zero programming. The Eco-Gas unit is auto calibrating and based on engine load
  • Is cheaper to own and run. Eco-Gas only injects LPG when required … ie UNDER LOAD, not at idle or warm up
  • Stock is available right now … no waiting period
  • Is Australian designed, owed and run using the best parts, sensors and controls
  • Has Australian Warranty. No waiting for overseas parts.
